NORTHAMPTONSHIRE STOPPER SELECTED FOR NATIONAL PERFORMANCE CAMP
Talented goalkeeper to join up with England National Performance Camp
A talented female goalkeeper from Northamptonshire has been named as one of only two players within the region to participate in an England National Performance Camp, which takes place over 28th and 29th November in Coventry.
Maisie Thompson, who plays for Welland Valley Football Club and the Northamptonshire FA’s Girls Advanced Coaching Centre’s Under-14 side, is the only player from the county to be named on the camp, which provides players with an opportunity to impress England international selectors.
Maisie’s place on the England National Performance Camp is the latest stage of what has been a remarkable development. Having only started playing in goal earlier this year, Maisie’s attitude to learning her craft between the sticks and commitment to training has been outstanding, resulting in a place at both the Advanced Coaching Centre and, now, at the National Performance Camp.
Chloe Brown, the Northamptonshire FA Girls Advanced Coaching Centre Manager, said: “We are incredibly proud of Maisie and delighted that she now has the opportunity to impress coaches associated with the England international set-up
“She thoroughly deserves her place on the camp; it’s been incredible to see just how quickly she has developed into such a talented young goalkeeper. Maisie sets a wonderful example to young female players, showing that commitment and willingness to learn can get you far.
“In terms of the female England talent pathway, this is the furthest stage that Maisie can reach at her age, and I am sure that she’ll impress coaches there, just as she has done at Welland Valley and the Advanced Coaching Centre. A lot of credit should go to Paul Finch and Andrew Carter, Maisie’s coaches at Welland Valley, who have done an excellent job in developing her talent, alongside the more recent coaching received from our Advanced Coaching Centre goalkeeper coach, Nigel Hardy.”
Future England #1……..we hope so, ‘Good Luck Maisie from all at Welland Valley Football Club
