The Welland Valley summer tournament 2015 was held on the weekend of the 4th and 5th July at their home ground of Ladybridge Park in West Hunsbury. The weekend was a roaring success thanks to the many volunteers and club officials that tirelessly worked over the weekend from preparing the pitches, setting up the goals, erecting the various tents, car parking, BBQ  and collating the results, right the way through to packing away and picking up the litter late into the evening on the Sunday.

The Saturday saw the under 16 boys in action and all the girls age groups from under 9’s through to the under 16’s.  After hard fought battles throughout the day the highlight at the Brook was the tournament winning performance from Welland Valley’s very own under 16 girls.

Sunday was a busier affair with the remaining boys groups from the under 7’s right the way through to the under 15’s in action. Some hard fought battles again with some groups going right down to the wire with penalty shoot outs in the finals. Highlights for the club were having the tournament winners in the under 11 age group, runners up in the under 13’s and an all Welland final in the 12’s. The full list of winners and runners up in the competitive age groups follows below. The non competitive age groups (7’s – 10’s) had just as much fun over the weekend in their football, each getting participation medals on the day.

Welland Valley with the help of some friends also laid on some extra activities for the kids and parents alike over the weekend with bouncy slides and wrestling, ice cream vans, refreshment tents, sports massage therapy and BBQ, so know body was stuck for something to do.

The tournament each year is all about the children’s enjoyment and development in football and attracts over 2000 visitors each year. All money raised on the day gets pumped back into the club and its quest to develop toilet and changing facilities for the kids.

Welland Valley football club would like to especially thank the club Sponsors, Harrison Murray estate agents for their continued sponsorship, all the clubs that took part making it one of the biggest tournaments in Northamptonshire, the Friends of Hunsbury Park and Parish council for their continued support, and Michelle at NN4Now for their help in promoting the club. Our last big thank you goes out to the club officials, managers, the many volunteers and scrumptious cake makers without whom the tournament would not be able to take place.
